“Lost in Translation” has been named the best film of 2003 by the Toronto Film Critics Association.
“Lost in Translation” also won two other awards from the TFCA, a group of 29 journalists which represents the four major Toronto dailies, several weeklies, various magazines and a variety of electronic media. Bill Murray was named best actor for his role in “Lost in Translation”, while director & writer Sofia Coppola tied with Denys Arcand’s “Les Invasions Barbares” for best screenplay for her second feature film.

David Cronenberg’s “Spider” was the only other film winning multiple awards. Miranda Richardson earned the Best Supporting Performance, Female award and “Spider” was also awarded Best Canadian Film.

Peter Jackson was given two awards; Best Director for “The Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King” and a Special Citation for his overall work on “The Lord of The Rings” trilogy.

The TFCA added two new awards categories in 2003; Best Animated Film, awarded to Pixar’s “Finding Nemo” and Best Foreign Language Film, which is won by “City of God”, directed by Brazilian filmmakers Katia Lund and Fernando Meirelles.
