TFCA honours Zacharias Kunuk, Clyde Gilmour recipient
December 15, 2017

Blandina Makkik, seen here with TFCA President Peter Howell at the Dec. 12 Technicolor Clyde Gilmour Award dinner at Toronto’s Spoke Club, is a longtime friend of Inuk filmmaker Zacharias Kunuk, the 2017 Gilmour prize winner.
Kunuk is in pre-production for his next film, so was unable to attend. He asked Makkik to accept the award on his behalf. She regaled her TFCA audience with stories of living and working in Nunavut, where going out to the movies often meant seeing a western at the Roman Catholic mission, and where skin and cameras often freeze in temperatures that can drop to -50C.
