Treasurer – Marc Glassman

Marc Glassman is an arts journalist, film programmer, teacher, bookseller and cultural impresario. He won the initial DOC-Luminary Award from the Documentary Organization of Canada’s “Doc Institute” in 2016, the Tom Berner Prize for support of independent filmmaking in 2003, and the Toronto Arts Award in literature in 2000.  Marc has been the Editor-in-chief of POV (Point of View) Canada’s leading periodical on documentary culture since 2001. He reviews film every week for Classical 96.3 FM.

Marc was the first film programmer for Hot Docs and Reel Canada: Our films in our schools. He was for many years the programmer of the National Film Board’s Toronto theatre, The John Spotton Cinema, and the summer film programmer for Harbourfront Centre. More recently, Marc was the senior programmer for the Planet in Focus environmental film festival from 2013-2018 and is now on their Advisory Board.

Marc co-authored the major book on internationally acclaimed animator Paul Driessen, Images and Reflexions, co-authored and co-edited Forbidden Films: the Filmmaker and Human Rights, edited Atom Egoyan’s book Speaking Parts and Mike Hoolboom’s Fringe Film in Canada and has contributed articles to the Canadian Film Institute’s monographs on such independent directors as Gariné Torossian and Ingrid Veninger. Marc edited Montage, the Directors Guild of Canada’s national magazine, from 2002 until its demise in 2017. Previously, he was the associate editor of Take One magazine from 1989-2001. He has written for numerous publications including Playback, Fuse, Borderlines, Descant, Parachute, spacing, and Cinema Scope.
