TFCA Launches Critics’ Picks Series at Imagine Cinemas
October 7, 2026

Screening series begins with The Righteous on Nov. 2
In anticipation of our upcoming 30th anniversary, the Toronto Film Critics Association (TFCA) is contributing something new to the Toronto film community of which it takes pride in being a part.
In a new partnership with our friends at Imagine Cinemas, we are pleased to announce the launch of the TFCA Critics’ Picks screening series that will run on the first Monday of every month at the Imagine Cinemas Carlton beginning in November 2026.
Every month, a member of the TFCA will pick a film of their choice that they feel deserves renewed appreciation. The series will showcase Canadian films, international cinema, and independent works that represent the breadth (and idiosyncrasies) of the membership’s taste.
The TFCA will feature an article on its website (torontofilmcritics.com) by the corresponding member highlighting their choice and why they want to bring the film back to audiences. Members will introduce the film to a live crowd and, when possible, host a Q&A with any available talent or relevant guests to facilitate post-screening discussions.
We kick off the series on Monday November 2nd at Imagine Carlton with the feature debut from writer/director and star Mark O’Brien in the deliciously moody The Righteous (2021), courtesy of Vortex Media. Tickets are now available via Eventbrite.
In a Toronto film community that is so rich with retrospectives, the TFCA hopes that the members’ collective experience and knowledge adds a new layer to the screening opportunities in Toronto. It’s a chance to re-engage cinephiles in a city that is a leader in the global film community with audiences that want to experience as much cinema as possible in that movies are meant to be seen: on the big screen appreciating the shared experience.
