The Toronto Film Critics Association (TFCA) is pleased welcome four new critics to the membership: Prabhjot Bains, Daniel Garber, Sarah Gopaul, and Steve Norton. The membership voted to invite them during a virtual meeting held this week following a competitive application process.

Prabhjot Bains is currently the film and TV editor at RANGE magazine. He has also contributed to outlets including NEXT and Exclaim!. Daniel Garber is a veteran of the Toronto film scene with over 17 years on the beat providing film reviews every Saturday morning on CIUT 89.5 FM’s Critics Corner. Sarah Gopaul is currently the film editor at Digital Journal. She also contributes to That Shelf and previously wrote for outlets including TV Guide and Examiner. Steve Norton co-founded Screenfish in 2015 and covers film on their website and podcast. He also makes an active effort to engage youth in cinema.

Established in 1997, the Toronto Film Critics Association is comprised of professional Toronto-based journalists and broadcasters who specialize in film criticism and commentary. Dailies, weeklies and a variety of other print, broadcast, and online outlets are represented. The members of the Toronto Film Critics Association vote on the annual TFCA Awards, which include Rogers Best Canadian Film and Rogers Best Canadian Documentary (the largest combined cash prize in Canadian film), Company 3 Luminary Award, the Jay Scott Prize awarded to emerging Canadian artists, and the Telefilm Canada Emerging Critic Award.

The TFCA is affiliated with the International Federation of International Film Critics (FIPRESCI). Members have sat on juries at festivals in Cannes, Toronto, Berlin, Venice, Palm Springs, Munich, and London, among others.

Voting dates and final rules/categories for the 2026 TFCA Awards will be announced later this fall.
